White Christmas

So we didn't get a white Chirstmas but a we got a White day after the day after Chirstmas! (In other words it started snowing Thurs. night and we woke up with a little snow on Fri.)

We hope that you have all had a great Christmas with your families and friends! We'll see you in the New Year.

A day at the races!

Last weekend we (Kenny, Jen, Danny and myself) went to the Red Bull Air Races in San Diego Bay! It rained in the morning and Kenny and Jen braved the elements...we brought them coffee and then braved the elements too! Then a lady came and told us to move because there was going to be a wedding there! Long story short it all worked out...we even helped move the chairs for the bride to be because they were facing the wrong direction! After a lot of negotiation we settled in and watched the races!
The planes were fast and loud! Some people paid $25-$80 to stand on the other side of the bay to watch...while we paid nothing to bring out the easy up, and food and drinks! (Okay we did have to brave the blood thirsty crowd and the wedding!) It was a great day...lot's of people came by to watch, we made new friends and ate lot's of tootsie rolls! We ended the day at an Italian restaurant the pizza was good but the tirramisu was TREMENDOUS! :)
So that was our day at the races!

Fall and the hope for cooler days!

Well I think the title says it all. It is true that one of my FAVORTIE seasons is fall (although I love them all) I really am excited this year. Mostly for the cooler weather it promises to bring and being able to cook in my kitchen instead of only outside! So let's get ready for FALL!

Our Summer

So this summer has been cram packed! I went to Mt. Hope, (my friends camp) to help for a week. Then Danny, The Lewis family, my family, Rachel and a couple of my friends from the area met up at the cabin at Tahoe for the 4th of July! We got three fireworks shows and a private on the 5th. Danny also went to Florida for his work got a tattoo. I cut my hair, and also spent some time with Katie and went to the beach with Kelly and Eli. So far it's been a good but busy summer! So I FINALLY did it! I've been dying to cut hair and today Kelly made an appointment for me I went in and made a big change!

We're Home!

So we'll have pictures up shortly...but we made it back! We're alive, just a little tired and are in LOVE with hot showers and flushing toliets that you can put the TP in and flush! What amazing luxuries!

We're leaving on a Jet Plane...

Well the time has come, our bags are packed, (almost) we're ready to go...

Family, Friends and Fun

So we've had a lot of visitors family and friends the past couple of weeks! It's been nice getting out to the different San Diego landmarks. When you have company it makes you take advantage of the the beautiful things around you that you may not normally make time for.
Mary and James came down from Northern California, and the weather was amazing!

We went to Balboa park and a few other places around San Diego. We looked at the flowers of spring, the fish and all the new life at the park.

The next weekend Matt, Kelly and Eli came down. We went out to eat in Little Italy, Eli loved the food! We then walked down to the harbor and back. We were impressed when Eli walked the WHOLE way it was probably 10 blocks. What a little trooper! Over at our house cousin Buttercup and Eli played together and entertained us all. We went to the Yogurt Mill and then over to Danny's work to show Matt and Kelly what he's been up to and to let Eli see some cool planes, he even got to sit in some. Thanks everyone for coming down, we had a great time with you all!

New Bags

In preparation for our Peru trip (which is less than two months away) we decided that we needed new sleeping bags. We began our search and were quickly disheartened. They were very expensive, our bags were about 10 years old and we hadn't looked for a while. We know that getting good sleep while traveling is a must, and our bags weren't as warm as they used to be and being cold meant not a ton of sleep. So we went in search of our bags!

We went to REI with our dividend in hand...still too much. We went to Adventure 16, the staff wasn't helpful and we couldn't find a bag we liked for under $160 (not including tax). We had been looking on line a lot, at many different sites. Finally last week Danny found them, on campmor.com! They were under $100 but still really good quality, and we LOVED the colors! (Okay, I know color has nothing to do with sleep; but it's still nice to have a bag in the colors you enjoy!) Here are our bags:

Family Time

Last weekend Rick, Karen and Emily came down to hang out. We had a great time hiking at Torrey Pines State Park. We strolled UP the hill to the top looked around the old lodge, hiked down some trails (the trail to the beach is closed) and then went back and walked on the beach collecting shells and looking at cool rocks!

We went to dinner at Fillipi's Pizza Grotto in Little Italy and learned the hard way that it is best to call ahead for reservations! Nonetheless it was worth the wait. On Sunday we watched Emily's volleyball team slaughter the competition! Go Emo! It was fun to watch and it made us want to play again! :)

Not Meant to Offend

So this is not meant to offend those of you who have chosen to have kids or already have them. It is simply a few funny ideas as to why a pet maybe easier to have than a child! It's only meant to give you a little chuckle...nothing more, nothing less!

Remember: In many ways, dogs and cats are better than kids because they:
1. Eat less.
2. Don't ask for money all the time.
3. Are easier to train.
4. Normally come when called.
5. Never ask to drive the car.
6. Don't hang out with drug using friends.
7. Don't smoke or drink.
8. Don't have to buy the latest fashions.
9. Don't want to wear your clothes.
10.Don't need a "gazillion" dollars for college.

And finally,
11. If they get pregnant, you can sell their children.

We're leaving on a jet plane...

It's offical, yesterday Jen came over to the office during our lunch break and we bought our tickets to Peru! So now we're going no turing back, no turing back! We are SO excited, this will be my first trip where I have to use a passport. (When we went on the cruise they didn't require them.) It will also be my first trip where I get a meal on the flight. I know some people don't like air line food; but I'm excited about it! So we're officially leaving on May 19th so be praying for us!

To shave or not to shave?

Danny is going to yet again change his facial hair! He's having a hard time deciding what to do so he thought it would be a good idea to poll all of you! The polls will close on Friday the 16th at 4pm and he will shave during the weekend and we'll post a pic of his new face on Monday! So make your opinion count and cast your votes! We made the switch!

So today I logged into blogger and they forced me to switch to beta. I wasn't so sure I wanted to...I was comfortable with the way it was and I was worried that something would happen to all our postings. Life changes and I guess you can't do anything about it. So now I'm forced to jump on the beta bandwagon into cyberspace. So hopfully this works!

Winter Wonderland Slide Show!

Winter Wonderland

A few weekends ago we went up to Wynola to check out an AMF camp. Wynola is about 10 minutes below Julian; and Wynola is about 45 minutes from our house. As many of you know we went on a trip this summer to look at camps in the Northwestern United States. None of them as of yet have seem to be the place God wants us to go. A few of our friends told us about Camp Wynola and the director Keith Stringfellow. So we emailed back and forth and decided to go up and check it out!
It's a BIG camp around 50 acres. They have a rock wall, a zip line, and lots of other really cool camp stuff! Mr. Stringfellow was really nice. He showed us around and gave us some history of the camp. We really like it so we're going to volunteer at the winter camp in the end of February. We want to serve God in a camping ministry of some sort, but we're not sure if we are to be full-time, part-time or just to be extra volunteer hands at a camp in our area. So if you have time we could use some prayer in making those decisions! In the meantime we've decided to get involved here and now in any way we can.

So after our big trip to the camp, we were so close to Julian we couldn't resist! We went to our favorite coffee shop and had lunch and hot cider. Then we looked at a few shops and enjoyed the cold air. (This was when it was getting down into the high 20's at our house. I guess they said that there were even snowflakes at Imperial Beach? I couldn't see them in the picture they showed, but what do I know? I didn't go to school to be a meteorologist! ) We decided to up to sunrise highway. That's where we go when it snows down here. Last year they got about 3-4 feet all at once! It had been so cold that we were sure there was snow...so off we went. While there was some snow more than that there was ice!
The ice had frozen to the plants and trees, there were plants that were half frozen crystal white and the other half was still green. The trees were frozen in whatever direction the wind had been blowing the night before. It was AMAZING! I hadn't seen anything like it on such a large scale before! The sun was out and thawing things out but also reflecting off all the ice. It was like being in a sea of prisms. It also reminded me of what it must have looked like when Narnia started to defrost! Maybe C.S. Lewis had seen something like this when he was writing his book! :)
